Dr. Fleis chman specializes in research\, assessment\, and treatment of children and adolescents with acute and chronic medical conditions\, with a particular focus on pain management. Currently\, she is conducting research\, teachi ng and providing consultation\, psychotherapy\, and biofeedback to youth w ith migraines\, headaches\, and post concussive syndrome. Dr. Fleischman h as presented on the topic of pediatric pain\, headaches\, migraines\, post concussive and other vestibular headache concerns at numerous institution s and conferences.\n\nCourse Description:\nPediatric pain is a major publi c health issue affecting rising economic costs\, repeated emergency depart ment visits\, poor pain management and potentially leading to decreased qu ality of life and increased disability (International Association for the Study of Pain\, 2005\; 2019). Pediatric headaches are one of the most comm on psychophysiological conditions affecting children and adolescents at va rious ages and etiologies. Estimates of headache prevalence range from 57- 82% in children and adolescents 8-15 years of age (Singhi\, Jacobs\, and G ladstein\, 2014\; Straube et al.\, 2013).The International Association Stu dy of Pain has highlighted the need for improvements in pain education\, f easible short-term solutions\, and early recognition and prevention.\n\nTh is presentation will discuss a comprehensive approach to identifying and t reating at-risk youth with a primary focus on prevention. Additionally\, t his talk will include a brief review of an ongoing piloted triage/referral model of care and previous significant results of a comprehensive brief b iofeedback-based Intervention for pediatric headache.
